Fun at Work? Lack of Job Satisfaction is said to hurt us emotionally and financially

NYT Happy at Work

Interesting piece in the New York Times

“Two out of three working Americans do not feel engaged at work, according to a Gallup survey. And many of these people spend more of their waking time working than doing anything else.”

This is such a shame…and so unnecessary.  I cannot speak for all industries, but there can be incredible job satisfaction for direct & digital marketers.  In fact, one of my daily challenges is that I reach out to potential candidates who are very happily employed, and cannot be lured away even for a bump in compensation.  I myself (earlier in my career) worked at one job that was so rewarding the money was secondary, and another job where the money was not enough to keep me engaged.  The grass can be greener!

We are creatures of habit, often more content to stay with the devil we know than take a chance on the devil we don’t know.  But the stakes are too high!  It’s not like purchasing a sweater that turns out to be itchy, or trying a new restaurant that turns out to be too noisy…this is your day-to-day life.  It is worth finding a work environment that is rewarding and even “happy”.  This article encourages us to find the fun at work.  And I encourage you to reach out to me today if you are finding that to be impossible.
